Go!

We'll be celebrating Easter in just a couple more days. Today, as I think about Jesus being put to death on the cross, I am a little sad. I'm sad because Jesus suffered a terrible death on the cross. I'm sad because he was so badly mistreated even before he was crucified. But mostly I'm sad because I know my sin put him there.

And today I know that I can confess my sin, and pray to God asking for help not to keep on sinning. But tomorrow I will sin again and will have to go back to God asking for forgiveness and for His help. And will have to do that again the next day. That's the way it was with the priests and the goats that we talked about last week.

Easter is what reminds us that God will be faithful to heal our hearts and help us overcome sin in our lives. Just as Jesus triumphed over death and the grave, Jesus helps us triumph over sin and disobedience. But I have to put my trust in Him alone to show me a better way.

For several weeks after the resurrection, Jesus appeared to people making sure they understood how He alone was the fulfillment of God's promises to His people. How He alone was sent to save us from our sin. And after that, Jesus told the disciples that they were to tell others that good news.

Matthew 28:19-20 is Jesus' Commission to his followers about what they were to do once he left them:

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Jesus' followers have been doing that ever since! And guess what? If you have decided to follow Jesus, you are supposed to do the same thing- telling others about all the wonderful things Jesus has done and how He promises to be with you always when you trust in Him!
