First Born

Do you have brothers or sisters? If you do where do you fall in the mix? Are you the oldest, the "baby" of the family, or maybe you are somewhere in the middle?

Often in a group of siblings, the oldest one is the one in charge. And that makes sense because they have always had the most responsibility. He or she is the one who is supposed to set a good example for the others.
Did you know that Jesus is like that to all who trust in Him? He's sort of a like a big brother--except he won't be mean to you or boss you around or pick on you like big brothers sometimes do! And He's in charge because God put Him in charge.
Colossians 1:16-17 tells us, "He (that is Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him."
Jesus was with God in the beginning. So all of creation reflects His glory and His goodness. And because we are part of his creation He deserves our love and our devotion. And as we spend time with Him we will begin to reflect love to goodness to others.
Aren't you glad that Jesus was sent to show us the way? Aren't you glad that Jesus is a kind and helpful older brother? I am!
We'll talk about that this week when we get together. Hope you (and maybe your brother or sister!) will join us!
With love,
Mrs. Bess
