How many times in a week does your mom remind you to wash your hands? 🧼 Maybe it's time to eat and she wants you to wash up for supper. Or maybe you've been playing outside and she doesn't want you to get dirt on the furniture. Or maybe you just covered a cough with your hand and she wants you to wash the germs off.
Soap is a good thing and it has made a big difference in keeping down infections and keeping us safe from things that might make us sick. But soap doesn't work on the dirt in our hearts. 😔 Soap doesn't make us clean from sin and the things that displease God.
This week we're going to be talking about confession of sin and why we do this each week in church. I'm sure some people think confession is hard and just avoid doing it. We hide our bad thoughts and actions from others. We often pretend we didn't do those things.
Here's a simple formula for confessing sin:
Name it
Admit it
Ask for forgiveness
Rest
It's that simple because God told us it is! "But if we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. We can trust God. He does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrongs we have done." 1 John 1:9
God knows everything anyway, so you can't possibly think that you can ever get away with sinning! And God doesn't have to use soap to cleanse us from our sin. He just uses love-- love that He showed through His son Jesus! ❤️
I can't wait to talk about this on Sunday! Until then...
