Singing Songs to God

I love to sing! Singing was always important in my home. My parents loved to sing! My grandparents loved to sing! My aunts and uncles and cousins loved to sing! We would sing all kinds of songs when everyone was together at the holidays. It was something that made being together special!
One of my earliest memories of singing was at church when I was little. Church was meeting at my home! My dad was leading the music. There was a group of about 30 people- adults and kids, who were gathered in our music room singing praise songs from a paperback book of songs.

Another wonderful memory I have is from 30 years ago at an old and famous church in England called Westminster Abbey. I attended a service called Evensong where we sat and listened the organ play and the choir members sing what some people consider to be "fancy" music.

From missionaries, I've heard stories about believers gathering in a barn or outside under a tree to worship. I can only imagine what the animals and birds must be thinking when they hear people lifting up their voices!

Recently, I've been singing more even when I'm not at church. I've been singing in my car most often, but sometimes when I'm at home on my own or even on a walk. Colossians 3:16 reminds us, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly... singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God."
When we lift up our voices in praise to God by singing psalms, hymns, Bible songs, etc. those words get into our hearts and minds. And they help us keep our focus on God! He is good and loving and He wants to help us every step of the way. We can sing and worship God ANYWHERE!
So sing to Him and let Him know how much you love Him and thank Him for all His goodness! It will make for a great day, I promise!
Love- Mrs. Bess
